| Description: The Central Queens YM-YWHA (CQY) is a non-profit Jewish community center providing social, cultural, educational and recreational services to over 15,000 children and adults. Everyday, nearly 1,000 people come through its doors, reflecting the rich fabric of Central Queens that includes America-born Jews, Holocaust survivors, Israelis, immigrants from the Former Soviet Union and other local residents of diverse backgrounds. Drawn to the area by its affordable housing, shopping, transportation and safe streets; they are welcomed by its institutions and organizations, and come to the Y to stretch physically, culturally and intellectually: to enjoy being with others, and to find spiritual satisfaction and identity in sharing, learning and celebration. Based in a 35,000 square foot dedicated facility on 108th Street with a full-sized pool, fitness center, and gym, our programs include:
The Y has two other locations, the Esther Grunblatt Russian Service Center in Rego Park, and a residential camp, Camp Edward Isaacs, located in Duchess County near Holmes NY, 70 miles from NYC The Central Queens YM&YWHA’s mission is to further Jewish continuity through a wide variety of educational, social, cultural, recreational, and supportive services. The Y provides an environment in which people of all ages and backgrounds can enrich their understanding of, and identification with, Jewish traditions and values while promoting understanding and cooperation within the general community. |
